Florentino Pérez received bad news at Real MadridThe president of the Spanish club will have a difficult re-election
The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, has a competitor in the race for the presidency of Merengue. The current white boss, who has been in office since 2009, faces new presidential elections this year, the fourth since he has presided over the club. So far, in the electoral processes of 2009, 2013 and 2017, he had not had any opponent for the position, and this may be the first time he has found a candidate on the other side with possibilities.
This's Enrique Riquelme, a 32-year-old businessman from Alicante who, in a hand-in-hand with El Confidencial, fervently assured that he intends to be the new president of the Madrid entity in the coming years. Above it, it's worth noting that Riquelme complies with all the requirements that the statute requires to stand for elections: he has 20 years of seniority as a member of the institution and, in addition, has the famous endorsement of 15% of the club's budget, which made everyone tremble to Joan Laporta, to assume the presidency at Barcelona of Lionel Messi. In this case, it would be around 92 million euros, which the businessman also contemplates.
Pérez' possible rival is the president of the company Cox Energy, a company valued at 300 million euros, which's dedicated to the renewable energy business in the Latin American region. “Right now, either the club takes a different direction and professionalizes the management to the maximum, becoming a truly global club, or there will be problems. And being global isn't doing a tour of the United States”, commented Riquelme in the talk with the aforementioned medium. Likewise, he assured that in the club that wears totally white "a change is needed".
Enrique Riquelme wants a change at Real Madrid
He recognized the work of Florentino Pérez, but said that the institution needed a change at the top. “One thing is the speech and another, the facts. Santiago Bernabéu laid the foundations of what Real Madrid is. He's, without question, the best president in history. Afterwards, we have had other good presidents and, among all of them, Florentino Pérez has been a shock, he has done very good things for the club. He consolidated Real Madrid 2.0, but the institution needs a change”, he explained to the media.
