Sunday’s big hit was in Barcelona: hours before scoring a brilliant free kick to open the score against Athletic Bilbao, Lionel Messi could see his contract leaked in the front cover of one of Spanish top newspapers. But as per the publication itself, there is more to come.
It is expected that more information on Messi’s terms with Barcelona will see the light in the upcoming weeks, as El Mundo newspaper’s sub-director Esteban Urreiztieta said on Monday morning. He has mentioned the contract was being investigated and tracked from the newsroom since it was signed.
Speaking to Argentina’s sports radio show Puede Pasar on Club 947, Urreiztieta also stated the repercussion was much bigger than they expected, since no sports publication in the world left the events aside. Also, he expressed: “Messi is over-paid, it’s not fair at all that he earns what he earns”.
Despite being critic on the Argentinian soccer legend, Urreiztieta assured the newspaper does not want to make him look like evil or the story’s villain, but still, they like Sunday’s front cover because of the way it looked. Apart from this, he closed: “Stay tuned, we will keep on publishing more details”.
