The signing of the Brazilian midfielder Phillipe Coutinho for FC Barcelona, from English Liverpool, back in January 2018, is on the way to becoming one of the worst operations in the history of modern football. In fact, he is the most expensive signing in the history of Barcelona, and according to what was expected of him, perhaps also one of the biggest failures.

The 160 million euros that the Blaugrana club disbursed then, to remove the Brazilian international from Anfield, seems, at least today,  that they will have no return. That, taking into account both the sporting and economic fields. Little by little, the European press has been learning the fine print of that billionaire transfer, which is now experiencing another chapter in England. This Saturday, the English newspaper Mirror, unveiled another clause that goes beyond the achievements of the Brazilian midfielder.

According to this information, Michael Edwards, Liverpool's sports director, had forced Barça to sign a non-aggression pact in terms of transfers with Liverpool until 2021 to avoid new purchases. That, after the acquisitions of Javier Mascherano and Luis Suárez. However, it mattered little considering that the Culé team's main focus was on number 11 of the Brazilian national team, Phillipe Coutinho.

Precisely, last summer the Catalan club came close to signing the Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, from Liverpool and to the liking of his compatriot Ronald Koeman, although he did not prosper in the end. The midfielder, who ends his contract next June, is one of the names that continues to sound strongly to renew the team now chaired by Joan Laporta. Perhaps, now if they can get it because that non-aggression pact expires this year.
