A news that surprised everyone, especially considering that there is little more than a month to go before the start of the competition. It is that in the last hours, the former French international Thierry Henry announced on his different social networks that he will cease to be the Montreal Impact coach for "personal reasons", although there are also rumors that link him with various Premier League clubs.

The 1998 world champion with France, who joined Montreal ahead of the 2020 campaign, said the past year had proved difficult as restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic left him unable to see his children. "It is with great regret that I have decided to make this decision," Henry, 43, said in a statement. "Last year was extremely difficult for me (...) Due to the pandemic I was unable to see my children. Unfortunately, due to ongoing restrictions and the fact that we will have to move to the United States again for several months, (this year) will not be different. The separation is too much effort for me and my children, "he emphasized.

Despite the fired letter stating that he was leaving because he missed his children, rumors claim that various Premier League teams are interested in having his services as a coach and that they would send him their proposals in the coming days.

Henry took over the Montreal team after a season in which he added 12 wins, 17 losses and five draws, results that knocked him out of the postseason for the third time in a row. When he was introduced as a coach, Henry acknowledged that he fell in love with Montreal, a diverse French-speaking city, where he said he hoped to have a long adventure as manager.

In his only season in office, Henry recorded eight wins, 13 losses and two draws, guiding Montreal to the playoffs as well as the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League. "Thierry's departure is regrettable and premature, but I was informed by his desire to return to his family because the situation continues to be very difficult for both him and his family," said Montreal sports director Olivier Renard.
