Diego Simeone preferred Hector Herrera for Atletico Madrid over this world class star

Injuries aside, Hector Herrera has been consistently playing for Atletico Madrid this season. Diego Simeone thinks the 30-year-old Mexican is an ideal midfielder for his system, and played everytime when fit next to Marcos Llorente and Saul, since he arrived from Porto at the beginning of the last season.

In fact, Simeone trusts Herrera so much that he rejected one of the players with the best technique in the world when offered. According to Marca, this happened some weeks ago when his club, Inter, wanted to get rid of him due to him playing bad while being one of the top earners.

This player, Christian Eriksen, was offered to Atletico Madrid by his agent, because the Danish was underperforming since his arrival from Tottenham and also, he was in bad terms with his coach Antonio Conte. And Simeone said no, that he does not need someone like him because Herrera can handle the midfield better.
