The World Cup is a title that has been elusive for Lionel Messi, despite his great talent and him competing for a powerful national team. The historical no. 10 from FC Barcelona tried very hard to win the competition, but was never able to do so. The time in which he was very near to win it was in 2014, when they reached the final game in Brazil and lost against Germany.

One of those players in charge of ruining Messi’s dream was Andrea Schurrle, the German attacker who was playing for Chelsea on those days and was a vital piece of the team of Joachim Löw to win the international tournament. One of the attackers that ruined the big dream of Messi, hardly reachable now that he is already 33 years old.

The career of Schurrle had many changes since he started as a professional player at Mainz 05. On July 2011 he passed to Bayer Leverkusen and then played as well for VfL Wolfsburg, Borussia Dortmund, Fulham, Spartak Moscu and Chelsea, as reported. Seven teams in which he showed a very good level and proved he was one of the best German attackers of the decade.

Surprisingly, at the age of 30 and when playing for Borussia Dortmund, Schurrle decided to announce his retirement. No one was expecting him to do such a thing, as he could yet continue playing a couple of years more, and he even had a reported value of $20 million on the day he decided to quit.
