Alejandro Sabella, the best coach Lionel Messi had for Argentina, passed away

Argentina mourns Alejandro Sabella’s passing away at 66 years old. After being admitted in a hospital for a cardiac disease affected by Diego Maradona’s death, a virus he got inside the hospital worsened his health. He had struggled with an arrhythmia and a throat cancer some years ago but this time, sadly, he could not make it.

Sabella was known for being Argentina national team’s coach that reached World Cup final in 2014 with Lionel Messi as the captain and best player, losing to Germany. He was also cherished in Argentina for being the coach who made Messi play at his peak with them, and Lio himself declared the times he enjoyed the most at Argentina were with Sabella.

He was unanimously loved by Argentinian people, especially by Estudiantes fans, who had the pleasure of winning Copa Libertadores 2009 with ‘The Professor’ sitting on the bench. He got even close to beating Guardiola’s Barcelona in the Club World Cup of that year, but the Spanish club made a comeback with goals of Pedro at the end and Messi in extra time.

His whole managing career had two teams (Estudiantes and Argentina) and lasted only six years, but he was incredibly successful anyway. This death is the second in hitting all Argentines, after Diego Maradona passed away just two weeks ago. The country’s soccer is going through a mourning that does not seem to end.
