The tough fight between CONCACAF and CONMEBOL for MLS and Liga MX

It is known that MLS and Liga MX want to enter the Copa Libertadores but CONCACAF opposes this decision. CONMEBOL wants both Liga MX and MLS to be part of Libertadores to give the cup more competitiveness and globalization, but CONCACAF fears for its own competitions. The fight between the two confederations seems to have no end.

The Copa Libertadores is losing a higher level each time since some of the teams are not at the level of the great powers such as Boca Juniors, Rver Plate, Flamengo or Santos. CONMEBOL's fear is that the Copa Libertadores will be discredited and they want the Mexican teams to participate again and MLS for the first time.

In 2019, Liga MX and MLS had reached an agreement to participate in the Copa Libertadores, but CONCACAF prohibited them. The same happened with the Copa America, so Mexico and the United States were forced to play the Golden Cup in 2021. This CONCACAF decision hurts both MLS and Liga MX as they seek financial and sporting returns for their teams.

Years ago the Copa Libertadores included teams from La Liga MX and it was really attractive. There will be great matches between teams from South America and Mexicans. The return or the creation of a new tournament that involves the entire American continent is very important for the football business of this continent.
