This season, Ronald Koeman got rid, or at least tried to, of many players, from Luis Suarez at the beginning of the season to Carles Aleña, more recently. The coach does not want to have players he considers to not be good enough to play at FC Barcelona first team, and there are still other players that he wants out.
One of them has had a public issue for months, and Koeman even accused him of leaking information to the press. This midfielder wanted to leave but could not, so the manager assigned him a role of bench warmer. Since he wanted to play, he subbed him on in the 87th minute against Elche today, giving him an insignificant amount of time, so he would not have time to do anything.
Or at least that was what he thought, because he scored anyway. Riqui Puig scored the last goal for the 2-0 win. It was a header, something very strange for someone short like him. But he used perfectly the few minutes that Koeman gave him, and with his first goal ever, showed he will not surrender at FC Barcelona.
The midfielder was supposed to leave on loan to Getafe, and even the coach said that the best for him was to leave. But he stayed anyway and as a rebel, sent him a strong response telling him that he is at home and he will fight to stay. The conflict between Koeman and Puig has a new chapter, because Riqui is putting pressure to play more frequently.
