The Gunners have reached an agreement with Anderlecht to pay £18m for the highly-rated midfield star. This deal comes after weeks of speculation surrounding the Belgian-born midfielder. Lokonga will put pen to paper on a 5-year deal that will see him stay at the Emirates till 2026.
Lokonga, 21, will seek to help Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side bounce back from their dismal performance in the league last season. Remember that Arsenal finished in 8th position last season, missing out totally on all European competitions.
The midfield rising star will try to help the Gunners get back into European competition by staking his claim in midfield. He will play and compete with the likes of Thomas Partey and Emile Smith Rowe in the Arsenal Engine room. His path to being a starter will be clearer with the departure of Guendouzi to Marseille, the return of Odegaard & Ceballos to their parent club Real Madrid, and the imminent transfer of Granit Xhaka to Roma.
Lokonga will join up with his new teammates in Florida later this week as Mikel Arteta works to put his team in place ahead of the new season. Lokonga will wear the number 23 jersey with the name 'Sambi' on the back.
