Chile vs Bolivia: La Roja won, but what do they need to go to the Qatar 2022 World Cup?

While this incident began as a matter of rumors in the press, both nations have now entered into a legal war over the issue.

Why could Chile go to the World Cup? Here is the reason for the fight with Ecuador over the ticket to Qatar 2022

The controversy erupted due to a communiqué from the National Association of Professional Football (ANFP) of Chile, which denounced the wrongful inclusion of Byron Castillo in the Ecuadorian national team, which they claim was born in Colombia.

"The world of soccer cannot close its eyes to so much evidence. The practice of serious and conscious irregularities in the registration of players cannot be accepted, especially when we are talking about a world competition. There must be a fair play on and off the field".

According to the complaint made about the player, who currently plays for Barcelona Sporting Club of Ecuador's Serie A, Castillo is not a player from Ecuador, but from Colombia.

However, it did not take long for the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) to respond to the accusation made by its Chilean counterpart. The communiqué of the organization reads as follows:

"In relation to our selected player, Mr. Byron Castillo, we must be emphatic that the player is an Ecuadorian citizen for all legal purposes, both in the civil and sporting sphere, being duly registered with the competent national authority and having all the national documentation in order. Each and every one of the calls for players that our federation makes for its different national teams is carried out in strict compliance with the current legal regulations and with the documentation that proves the Ecuadorian nationality of those called".

Why is Chile demanding to go to the World Cup instead of Ecuador?

Chile's claim is based on the fact that Byron Castillo played 8 matches of the Conmebol World Cup Qualifiers with Ecuador, 2 of which were against La Roja

And in those 2 matches, there was a 0-0 draw in Quito, and a victory for the Ecuadorians, who went to Santiago where they won 2-0, so if these victories were discounted to the Ecuadorian team, Chile could take the 5 points from those matches, with which it could have reached 24 points.

And while both versions began as press rumors, both South American soccer organizations have now issued formal complaints to Conmebol, in order to get to the bottom of this issue and find out the truth.
